Fellow skate evangelists take note! Skateboarding San Francisco: Concrete, Community, Continuity is rolling (pun intended) into the San Francisco Main Library from February 13 to July 6, 2025. This incredible exhibition celebrates 50 years of the city's skateboarding legacy, highlighting its influence on global skate culture, music, fashion and art. Featuring archival photos, legendary skate videos, and artifacts from iconic spots like the Embarcadero, this is a must-see for anyone who loves the sport and the creativity it inspires. If you are curious about the history of skateboarding in SF, check out this piece I wrote a few months ago about why skateboarding is the heart of San Francisco.
SOLVE
Full transparency, I do not like math. I love it as a concept and I’m so happy there are math people out there making the world a better place. Also glad it’s not me having to do it! But I love the genius of math and really appreciate the creativity of numbers. Combine this with a high stakes thriller and yeah, I’ll totally watch that. Prime Target on Apple tv is an edge-of-your-seat thriller that follows a brilliant Cambridge math student whose groundbreaking discovery about prime numbers makes him the target of a dangerous global conspiracy. With stunning locations, high-stakes action, and a story that twists and turns, this series is a good time. Warning, while fascinating, it’s also violent and super gross at times.
WEAR
I LOVE a denim shirt. If you’ve worked with me, you probably already know—I basically rotate a wardrobe full of them. I’m drawn to utilitarian design, and there’s something about the simplicity and durability of a denim shirt that just speaks to me. Even better if it’s covered in paint. I have everything from high-end versions to thrifted gems, and honestly, I love them all.
A few months ago, Instagram’s algorithm totally nailed me with an ad for a denim shirt from Old Navy. Ooof. Complicated. On one hand, living in the Bay Area, Gap (Old Navy’s parent company) is local -I’ve known people at nearly every level of the company, and it’s always nice to see a campaign and recognize the hands that built it. But yeah… it’s fast fashion. Not exactly something I want to support. At the same time, I do want to support companies that stay committed to their DEI initiatives, which Gap has pledged to do.
All of this is to say, with some hesitation, I bought the shirt. And…it’s great. Tunic length, available in Tall (a miracle), and made of thick, beautiful denim. I went with the Dark and the Ecru. I’m impressed. And also, still conflicted.
ENJOY
San Francisco based artist Jeremy Fish and I go way back. We were the same year at the beloved and now closed San Francisco Art Institute (RIP SFAI), he tried to teach me to skateboard in 1998 (it went poorly), and very generously taught me quite a bit about advanced screen printing techniques. I haven’t seen him in years, but I’m always rooting for him. Fish’s talent is immense and he’s a real local sweetheart. I was delighted to learn his newest body of work Moral Compass is a collaboration with his mom. This new solo exhibition at Harman Projects SF, running from March 1–29 blends Fish’s signature intricate line work, surreal storytelling, and a deep connection to San Francisco’s culture with well known fables and folklore written by none other than his own mom. How great is that? A must see for locals. Go show Fish some love.
THE CREATIVE
Welcome to The Creative. Twice a month I share quotes from the books, Art is the Highest Form of Hope, Every Day a Word Surprises Me, and The Creative Act. I find perspectives on the creative process to be so meta when it comes to life. We are a creative process and everything we do is subject to the same rules. Creation is non-linear. It's messy. It moves forward and backward. And also gets stuck. Oftentimes we do not realize the purpose of a singular creative process until years later. Creativity likes to surprise us.
“Art is our portal to the unseen world.” - Rick Rubin
Creativity is an act of faith. We show up, put in the work, and trust that something will emerge. And often, we have no idea what that something is until much later. Rick Rubin’s words “Art is our portal to the unseen world”, capture this beautifully. Art is not just about making things; it’s about accessing something beyond our logical understanding. It’s a conversation with the unknown.
As artists, we are translators. We take what is intangible. An idea, a feeling, a whisper of inspiration, and give it form. Sometimes this process feels electric, like a direct line to something greater than ourselves. Other times, it feels like wandering in the dark, searching for the next breadcrumb. Either way, we are in dialogue with something unseen, and our work is a way of listening. This portal to the unseen is why connecting with creativity as an energetic force is so beneficial to our creative process.
The unseen world isn’t always grand or mystical; it can also be deeply personal. A memory we didn’t know we were holding onto. A truth we weren’t ready to say out loud. A possibility we hadn’t yet dared to consider. Creativity has a way of revealing what we need, whether we’re ready or not.
And that’s the pull. The reason we return to the work again and again. Because even when we don’t fully understand it, something in us knows there’s more to discover.
SOLAR TRANSIT
In Human Design, a solar transit shifts our energy as the Sun moves through Gates; use it to tap into fresh creative inspiration.
3-19-25
Gate 25
Gate of the Spirit of Self
On March 19, the sun gracefully traverses Gate 25, known as the Gate of the Spirit of Self. During this celestial transit, you're invited to embark on a deeply introspective voyage of self-discovery. This celestial transit encourages a deep exploration of your inner realm, focusing particularly on the profound energy of unconditional love, a force that transcends boundaries and embraces every being with acceptance and compassion.
At its core, Gate 25 recognizes the divine essence of love, perceiving it as the very fabric of existence and affirming the inherent worthiness of every individual to receive it unconditionally.
This gate stands as a testament to the belief that love is the ultimate force that binds the universe together, capable of overcoming all obstacles and transforming even the darkest of circumstances. Gate 25 teaches us that the true path to experiencing unconditional love lies in accepting ourselves and others exactly as we are, without judgment or reservation.
Gate 25 also illuminates a tendency towards self-judgment and criticism. To feel trapped in cycles of self-rejection, self-hatred, and self-loathing, often stemming from past traumas that have left deep emotional wounds. In moments of profound pain or trauma, shutting down, retreating into a state of isolation and feeling unworthy of love.
To cultivate a deeper sense of unconditional love and elevate the frequency of Gate 25, it is essential to embark on a journey of healing and self-discovery. Seeking support from trusted individuals or professionals to address and heal past traumas can be instrumental in releasing the burdens of self-judgment and embracing a more compassionate view of oneself and others.
Here are some journaling prompts to deepen your understanding and engagement with this transit:
1. Reflect on a time when you experienced a profound sense of unconditional love in your life. What were the circumstances, and how did it impact your perception of yourself and others?
2. Explore any patterns of self-judgment or self-criticism that you may have noticed in your life. What underlying beliefs or past experiences contribute to these patterns, and how do they influence your relationship with yourself and others?
3. Consider any past traumas or emotional wounds that may be affecting your ability to fully embrace unconditional love. How have these experiences shaped your view of yourself, and what steps can you take to begin the healing process?
4. Experiment with meditation as a practice for cultivating unconditional love and compassion. How does directing loving-kindness towards yourself and others shift your perspective and deepen your capacity for acceptance?
Gate 25 in Human Design represents the energy of unconditional love, affirming the inherent worthiness of every individual to receive love without judgment or reservation. While embodying the transformative power of love, Gate 25 also grapples with its shadow side, manifesting as self-judgment and self-rejection stemming from past traumas. By embarking on a journey of healing and self-discovery, and embracing practices such as gentle meditation, we can elevate the frequency of Gate 25 and cultivate a deeper sense of unconditional love and acceptance within ourselves and towards others.

Next week I’m sharing the new insight about transformation that I cannot stop thinking about. Imagine if the concept of change meant having more instead of focusing on eliminating behaviors or being in resistance?

This latest Muse, much like all the ones I’ve read so far, has been illuminating and just fantastic. So many quotes and thought-provoking ideas I want to sit with—especially this one:
"The unseen world isn’t always grand or mystical; it can also be deeply personal. A memory we didn’t know we were holding onto. A truth we weren’t ready to say out loud. A possibility we hadn’t yet dared to consider. Creativity has a way of revealing what we need, whether we’re ready or not."
