As we approach 2025, a simple reminder,
You don’t need to do anything.
You do not need to put yourself through the task of reevaluation just because the calendar is about to turn.
Nothing is actually something.
You do not need to reflect on the past 365 days right after a major string of holidays that are real triggering for a lot of us. It’s kind of hilarious actually. If we look at the data, the new year is the worst time to put ourselves through a gauntlet of aspirational self discovery.
So if you are out there thinking you need to have a plan for 2025, or a word - don't you just love those? - or a theme, a manifestation, an organizational system, on and on. Okay. Great. Goals are nice. Write those down and maybe look at them again in a month or so when you don’t feel so vulnerable. Do that in March.
When you can reflect on life with perspective with some clarity and neutrality.
It’s by design to keep us spending and feeling unworthy after a major string of holidays that keep us spending and feeling unworthy. This incessant drive for improvement, it is put upon us.
But maybe, just maybe, you do not need to improve.
Instead of putting more energy toward more, call it back. Invite your energy back from 2024. Each month, each day, each hour. Invite yourself back home.
The beautiful thing about the past is that we do not need to solve for it. Whatever 2024 brought, you did enough right that you are here. Now. Present. You did the thing without even knowing you did the thing. Why in the world would there be more to do?
So instead of looking forward, I ask you to be present even if just for a few moments. Spend some time collecting your energy from the past year. Be in receivership of that beautiful precious energy you already gave before you go out in effort to put more forth.
Your goals are not an emergency. They can wait until you shake off the end of 2024.
They can wait until June.
They can wait.
You can wait.
You are worthy of love right now.
Today.
As you are.
With zero improvements.
You are miraculous because there is just one of you.
One of you.
Forever.
So
Take a deep breath.
You are allowed to take your time.
Happy New Year.

This month’s question comes from an Ask me Anything segment from a few months ago. I’m still working through your questions, thanks for your great questions and thanks so much for your patience.
“What did you learn about your own psyche by attending to people in the psych-ward?”
When I was in training as a psychotherapist, I had the profound opportunity to work on an inpatient adolescent psychiatric ward in San Francisco. I facilitated therapy and activity groups for patients, and also continued outpatient therapy for those transitioning out of the hospital. Working with people in acute crisis isn’t something every mental health professional chooses to do. In fact, this kind of training isn’t even required for licensure, though I believe it should be. Having worked in this setting, I remain hesitant to refer clients to therapists without experience in managing acute psychiatric conditions. When you’re trained to recognize a fire at its most intense, you become more attuned to spotting its early warning signs. In psychology, these subtle signs are essential for creating timely interventions, even when a person isn’t in crisis. It’s fascinating how the lessons learned from working with acute populations continue to shape how I approach my work today, even as a mentor, rather than as a therapist.
People in acute crisis are extraordinary. They are often highly intelligent, compassionate, and incredibly fragile. They may seem to behave in ways that are frightening or incomprehensible to us, but these behaviors are simply a raw form of communication about their inner turmoil. Imagine the terror of losing control of your mind and body. This fear is not always easy to recognize, but when you do, it becomes an essential part of how we understand and respond to their needs. There is a certain genius in this simplicity. Psychosis is not abnormal, but part of a spectrum of mental health. Under severe stress, trauma, or genetic predisposition, some individuals experience psychotic episodes. These can appear early in life or later on and may be transient, requiring short-term medication, or may necessitate long-term treatment and care. Some of us are predisposed to these challenges; others may experience psychosis in response to overwhelming events, medications, or even substances like cannabis (for real this is true).
The most lasting impact this experience had on me, though, was a deep sense of gratitude. To wake up every day with a clear head is nothing short of a gift. It's a privilege we often take for granted. Every moment spent alive and mentally stable is truly precious. Mental clarity is a miracle that I am grateful for every single day.
I am forever grateful for every single kid I worked with through those years. They continue to be my greatest teachers, and I draw upon their lessons when guiding clients through high-stakes work negotiations, management concerns, group dynamics, and overall systems health. The work was extremely challenging. It was both the best and the worst, and something I knew I couldn’t do forever. But wow, am I glad I did. It changed me forever.

SOLAR TRANSIT
In Human Design, a solar transit shifts our energy as the Sun moves through Gates; use it to tap into fresh creative inspiration.
12-31-24
Gate 38
The Gate of the Fighter
On December 31, the sun gracefully transits Gate 38, also known as the Gate of the Fighter. Amidst this celestial passage, an invitation is extended to embark on a profound journey of self-discovery. Gate 38 beckons, providing a unique opportunity to delve deep into the inner sanctum, with a specific focus on understanding one's approach to challenges and adversity.
As the sun makes its way through Gate 38, it casts a luminous light upon a path ripe for exploration—an exploration of the energies propelling you toward the discernment of what holds genuine meaning and is deemed worthy of a spirited fight. This celestial transit serves as a gentle guide, nudging you to scrutinize your needs, values, and intentions, setting them as the bedrock for purposeful actions.
Gate 38 acts as a catalyst, inspiring contemplation on personal values and vision to foster alignment with one's actions. It encourages individuals to view challenges not merely as obstacles but as opportunities for understanding what is truly worth fighting for. Transforming the narrative of struggle into a journey of discovery, Gate 38 advocates harnessing the power of newfound insights as the cornerstone for a robust vision of transformation—one that brings dreams into tangible existence. This energy instills the vigor required to champion a noble cause, embracing the pressure to evolve and infuse life with meaning.
Gate 38, in its less favorable manifestation, represents an inclination to engage in conflict for its own sake—a belief that life is inherently meant to be an unhealthy struggle. To elevate the frequency of Gate 38, it becomes imperative to challenge and rewrite any convictions that dictate one is fated to endure life's struggles. Reconnecting with the spirit of the warrior is key, transcending negative beliefs and embracing a mindset that life's challenges are a canvas for personal growth and transformation.
Here are some journaling prompts to deepen your understanding and engagement with this transit:
1. Recall a recent challenge. What did you learn about yourself and what you believe is worth fighting for?
2. List your core values guiding decisions. How do they align with your actions during challenges?
3. Describe a tough moment turned into personal growth. What lessons did you learn, and how does this contribute to your life's purpose?
4. Examine any limiting beliefs about struggle. How can you reframe them for a more positive mindset?
During this transit, you are encouraged to view challenges as opportunities for growth, advocating for fighting for what is right. Embracing this energy involves transforming limiting beliefs, reconnecting with one's fighter spirit, and envisioning a life aligned with values and intentions.

“Even though things seem hard and challenging, I choose to use my challenges to provide clarity around what I really want, and I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”
I appreciate the message here:
“So if you are out there thinking you need to have a plan for 2025, or a word - don't you just love those? - or a theme, a manifestation, an organizational system, on and on. Okay. Great. Goals are nice. Write those down and maybe look at them again in a month or so when you don’t feel so vulnerable. Do that in March.”
Exactly. This is how I was feeling earlier today. There’s nothing particularly magical about December 31st. I used to feel compelled to write a long list of goals and go through all kind of cleansing rituals. This year I wasn’t called to do that. As you said, the past is in the past. 2024 is almost behind me. I have some ideas of what I want to do next year. And I can review them in a month or two. The last few months have been about slowing down, cocooning and being present. Knowing I don’t have to do or be anything in any moment has given me a sense of inner peace. Once in a while panic sets in. But, I know that’s old programming. I just remind myself to come back.
Question for you: I see reference to Gates. I read iChing. Are Gates the same as hexagrams? Are you working with the same system?
Wonderful just what I needed thank you very much
Thank you for your emails. I look forward to them!
